Radar absorbing materials for the automotive industry
In the 90´s, the first radar sensor systems, such as parking aid, collision warning and adaptive cruise control (ACC), were installed in US cars. Since then manufacturers have continued to develop better systems. In the meantime such systems are not only in use in the premium segment, you can find them in nearly every newly produced car. Because of interference with other electrical devices there is a need for Radar Absorbing thermoplastic compounds.
The first radar-absorbing material based on PA6 was developed by the Wittenburg Group back in 2005. Nowadays we offer several customized radar-absorbing materials based on different polymers, like PP, PBT, PC with different reinforcements. Even soft, TPE- based, radar-absorbing materials for pedestrian protection shields are available. In most of the current cars our material is already in use.

X-ray shielding plastic compounds
X-rays are used for many medical and industrial applications. In most cases, X-rays or Gamma generators need a shielding solution to protect the operator from X-rays or Gamma radiation exposure. Examples of X-ray and Gamma radiation applications are cavers, supports, gaskets and housings. X-ray shielding solutions can also be used to determine the position of special functional equipment, for example, catheter applications.
We use Tungsten and Ceramics to give X-ray shielding properties to plastics. Tungsten gives the best shielding properties but Ceramics can also be used at a higher wall thickness. Polypropylene, TPE-S, Polyamide, PBT, PPS and PEEK can be used to make effective shielding compounds. The base polymers PPS, PSU and PEEK have the best long term stability against X-rays.
Depending on the formulations our grades are lead-free and can be coloured. All shielding grades can be processed on normal processing equipment for polymers.

Metal and/or X ray detectable
Metal and/or X ray Detectable materials are increasingly used by the food manufacturing industry. Equipment used in food manufacture has to be detectable to prevent contamination of the final product. Metal detecting equipment is traditionally used to screen for metal contaminants; however, X-ray detection is becoming increasingly common as the equipment is getting more cost effective.
X-ray detection has the advantage of also being able to detect glass and other non-metal contaminants. We have an extensive range of market leading metal detectable, X-ray detectable and dual metal/X-ray detectable grades. The technology is independent of polymer base resin and can be glass fibre reinforced or coloured depending on the requirements.
Typical applications would be anything used during food preparation which, if damaged or misused, could end up in the final food product. By using detectable equipment throughout the manufacturing process, risk and liability can be minimised. Scrapers, buckets, scoops, paddles, utensils, knife handles and conveyors are all equipment that should be manufactured out of detectable materials when used in a food preparation environment. Our detectable grades can often be moulded in the same tools as conventional products to minimise development and production costs.
Please contact our engineers to solve your need for metal and/or X-ray detectable compounds.
