L6X® ALUMINIUM MEDICAL CYLINDERS
Our L6X all-metal oxygen cylinders are manufactured from our exclusive L6X aluminium alloy, our proprietary formula of 6061 alloy.
Luxfer metallurgists, among the most recognized experts in the industry, developed this corrosion-resistant blend specifically to provide excellent performance in the most demanding high-pressure applications. Compared to conventional versions of 6061 alloy, Luxfer’s L6X has been optimized to improve durability, fracture toughness and resistance to tearing and cracking, even under high-pressure loads over long periods.
Because of the unique performance characteristics of L6X alloy, Luxfer has consistently passed all extensive, rigorous testing performed by major global gas companies and met or exceeded requirements set by every major cylinder regulatory authority in the world. Widely used in home oxygen therapy, emergency medical services and medical institutional applications in more than 50 countries, the more than 50 million cylinders Luxfer has manufactured from L6X alloy have an outstanding record for safe, dependable performance.
Luxfer aluminium cylinders are cycle-tested in excess of 100,000 cycles at service pressure to ensure dependable performance. Up to 40% lighter in weight than comparable steel cylinders, Luxfer aluminium cylinders are also highly corrosion-resistant and well suited to low-temperature applications.

L7X® HOOP-WRAP MEDICAL CYLINDERS
Our L7X hoop-wrap cylinders are manufactured with inner aluminium liners made from Luxfer’s L7X higher-strength alloy that provides not only superior mechanical characteristics, but also significant weight savings.
L7X liners are strengthened along the parallel cylinder sidewall with ultra-high-strength fibre wrapping, resulting in a high-performance cylinder that is compact, light in weight and extremely corrosion-resistant. When charged to 300 bar, these cylinders provide up to 50 percent more gas capacity than conventional cylinders that can only be charged to lower pressures—which means that fewer cylinders are needed to deliver the same amount of gas. L7X hoop-wrap cylinders are also up to 55 percent lighter in weight than steel cylinders and up to 35 percent lighter than all-aluminium cylinders. Because of the higher strength of L7X alloy, threads last longer and are less susceptible to damage from valving and devalving.

L6X® CARBON COMPOSITE MEDICAL CYLINDERS
Each ultra-lightweight L6X carbon composite cylinder has an inner liner made from Luxfer’s proprietary L6X aluminium alloy that is strengthened with an aerospace-grade carbon-fibre wrapping that completely surrounds the liner.
These extremely durable cylinders initially gained favour with firefighters who use them in self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). These cylinders are now also widely used by paramedics and other emergency first-responders. Because of their much lighter weight, compact size, higher capacity and excellent portability, Luxfer full-wrap cylinders are becoming increasingly popular in emergency and pre-hospital care, as well as for home oxygen therapy, in which reduced weight and increased filling capacity provide significant advantages to ambulatory patients.
