Streptavidin coated plates
Kaivogen started off solely as a microplate provider. We continue to offer high-quality plate products at a competitive price. Kaivogen streptavidin coated microplates are suitable for a wide range of applications. The 96-well plates are available in several different formats including 12-well strip plate, 8-well strip plate and breakable strip plate, enabling the use of various instruments and assay configurations. Other plate formats and 384-well plates are also available on request.

All the plates have high affinity towards biotin and are stable over a wide range of pHs, detergent concentrations and ionic strengths. The available plate families differ in terms of their binding capacity, background and streptavidin leaching properties and their cost. For ELISA- type measurements we recommend using KaiSA96 plates. For assays subject to streptavidin leaching we recommend UniverSA96 plates, on which the streptavidin is bound covalently onto the surface. For applications requiring especially low fluorescence background we recommend KaiSA96 LOW plates.[pm1]

Anti-species plates
Kaivogen has expanded its plate product portfolio to cover various anti-species microplates including anti-mouse, anti-human, anti-sheep and anti-rabbit plates. All the anti-species plates are passively coated and are saturated for low non-specific binding.

The recommended applications include bioaffinity assays and the screening of antibody producing cell lines. The 96-well plates are available in 12-well strip plate format, but also other plate formats are available on request.

Assay Development
You can pick only the desired functions from our assay development workflow, or we can grow your concept from the very beginning through all the steps to a finalized product (RUO or IVD). The extent of the project, preliminary timetable and budget as well as the needed level of documentation will be agreed upon prior to starting the project. A complete ISO 13485 compliant assay development project includes formal design reviews, documented procedures and result reports together with risk assessments[pm1] throughout the entire project.

ELISA-assays, lanthanide-based immunoassays, nanoparticle-based assays and lateral flow applications – our flexible assay development process has helped various collaborators to achieve their assay development goals regardless of the detection method and assay configuration. We have a wide network of collaborators to enable, for example, the raising and production of antibodies and other proteins or instrument development.

Upcon – Upconverting Nanoparticles
These inorganic nanocrystals are doped with lanthanide ions that provide the favorable properties of stable and bright emission, discrete emission bands and long emission lifetime.

Due to the NIR-excitation, the autofluorescence in biological samples is totally eliminated, and the particles are detectable through tissue and even in whole blood. These particles have been successfully used in various LF-assay based applications.

Lanthanide-doped particles are available as:
-raw particles without hydrophilic surface
-hydrophilic particles with –COOH groups for coupling to NH2
-ready to use streptavidin conjugated particles

About Us

Company details
Kaivogen Oy is a Finnish biotech company established in 2007. The kaivo in the company name is Finnish for the well of a microplate and relates to the company’s very first products, streptavidin coated plates. Since its start up with these products, Kaivogen has extended its portfolio year by year. Current products include a wide range of assay development services from kit manufacturing to custom plate production, custom biomolecule conjugation and custom buffer preparation. In addition, we provide various streptavidin and anti-species plates and buffer products as catalogue items. Also check out our Upcon® nanoparticle-based detection technology that is well suited for lateral flow applications.

Kaivogen’s main customer group consists of IVD companies, for whom Kaivogen acts as an OEM manufacturer of components for IVD assays and kits. Other customer groups include research foundations and academic research groups. Around 90% of Kaivogen’s turnover each year comes from exported products, the main export destinations being the USA and the Nordic countries.

Kaivogen Oy has been found to conform to the management system standards ISO 9001:2015/ISO 13485:2016 in development, manufacturing and distribution of coated microtiter plates and components for bioaffinity assays.

Also our custom services, such as assay development, plate coating and protein labeling can be ISO 13485 compliant if necessary.
