Plasma Resection Electrodes for TURP in Saline
The Bipolar Loop represents an entirely revolutionary treatment for BPH. Resection in saline (NaCl) is mainly used in urology for prostate and bladder resection as well as in gynecology for myoma and endometrium resection as an additional alternative to monopolar resection. The key difference is the use of saline (NaCl) instead of glucose solution. Saline is used as an irrigation medium and as a conductor of the electrosurgical current, contributing to even greater patient safety because a neutral electrode no longer needs to be connected to the patient’s body. The current does not therefore, flow through the patient’s body but is
conducted to the electrode instead. Resection enhances from the generation of plasma to achieve outstanding cutting power.

TURP RESECTION ELECTRODES – Monopolar
Trans Urethral Resection of Prostate (TURP) is a procedure done by urologists to reduce the size of the prostate gland, entering through the urinary tube (opening in the penis) of male patients. The prostate gland forms the opening at the end of male bladder, which allows the passage of urine from the bladder to the outside, through the Urethral canal in the penis. When the prostate gland becomes enlarged, passing of urine becomes difficult and it is then necessary to remove a portion of the gland so that the opening can be enlarged for proper urine passage.
The enlargement can be done by cutting small slivers of the prostate or by vaporization or both. Varying electrodes, inserted through the working element of a Resectoscope, are used for varying purposes.
Cutting Loops : is used to remove prostate tissue in the form of small chips.
Collin’s Knife : is used to make straight incisions in a very hard prostate tissue.
Roller Electrode : is used to vaporize the prostate tissue using high power.
Ball Electrode 3mm & 5mm : is used to coagulate and smoothen the freshly resected surface of the prostate gland. 5mm electrode is used when the surface to be coagulated
is large.
Kriloktrode : is a new electrode used for simultaneous cutting and vaporization.
Cold Knife : is used to make incisions of ureteral stenosis for upper urinary
tract obstructions.
