96 WELL PLATES
Biomat ‘s full range of 96 well plates for immunoassay includes solid plates, 8 well strip plates format (assembled on 12 x 8 well-holding frame) and in 8-well breakable strip plates format (on single well-holding frame), allowing the maximum flexibility for the user.
The 96-well plates are made in Transparent, White and Black Polystyrene and can be used for ELISA, Luminescence and Fluorescence assays.
Their design offers the best performances thanks to the following features:
manufactured in pure polystyrene with low fluorescence
the optical quality, important to reduce the background signal, is pursued through the mould design
the radius edged inner bottom of the wells improves the efficiency of washings
the external lid warrants vertical alignment when using single wells
a rim protects the external face of the bottom from scratches
the plates comply with SBS standards and the design assures a good performance in an automatic processing plant
Every 96 well plate is offered with more than 20 surfaces’ modifications: these allow maximum flexibility for the user upon its needs.

HIGH BINDING 96-WELL PLATES
The High Binding Capacity 96-Well Plate are offered in 3 different formats:

Clear, white and black microplates are manufactured in pure polystyrene with low fluorescence and can be used for ELISA, Luminescence and Fluorescence assays. White and black plates have minimal light scatter and prevent well-to-well crosstalk.
The strips’ plates are designed to be easily breakable by the user and repositioned in the frame; the radius edged inner bottom of the wells improves the efficiency of washing.
The High Binding Capacity 96 Well Plate comply with SBS standards and the design assures a good performance in automatic processing plant.

The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has become one of the most widely used techniques in molecular biology. It is used in applications from basic research to high-throughput screening.
PCR plates and strip tubes are made in polypropylene (PP) and while PP features of temperature resistance and low binding capacity fit with the needs of PCR protocol, some recent techniques as e.g. NGS, require binding properties.
While polystyrene (PS) polymer is easily subject to binding capacity improvement and is able to bind a wide range of molecules, the polypropylene (PP) is an inert polymer.
Thanks to a proprietary method for improving the binding capacity of polypropylene, now PCR 8 tubes strips or PCR plates are offered with coated molecules: Protein A, Protein A/G, Protein G, Streptavidin, Streptavidin HB.

PCR Plates
Biomat PCR plates are made in clear polypropylene coated with different molecules for your needs. Their thin walls optimize the heat transfer from the block to the reaction solution. while the rim of the wells is designed to protect against cross-contamination, allowing a reliable seal with the sealing mats tailored to the plates.
We offer three different types of plates suitable for Real-Time PCR:
– 96-well non-skirted PCR plates, suitable for most commercially available thermal cyclers.
– 96-well semi-skirted PCR plates, easily be labeled or tagged with a barcode.
– 96-well skirted PCR plates: especially rigid, and optimal suited for use with automatic pipetting systems and for being transported.
All Biomat’s PCR plates are pre-blocked with standard proteic blocking (ELISA Blocking).

PCR 8 Strip Tubes
Protein A PCR 8 Strip Tubes are 8 connected 0.2 ml tubes made in clear polypropylene; they have thin walls that optimize the heat transfer from the block to the reaction solution.
The Protein A PCR 8 Strip Tubes are available with or without flat caps; they are easy to open and close without tools and are compatible with most popular thermal cycler blocks.
Each PCR strip tubes has each numerically identified tube (from 1 to 8) for easy recognition and the strips have a holding strap at one end.
PCR 8 strip tubes are pre blocked with standard proteic blocking (ELISA Blocking)

Biomat 25+ years of industry knowledge and research has allowed to develop a cutting edge in-house facility and process. Biomat studies, develops and applies surface treatments to customers items cooperating with the customer in order to find the best solution in term of technical and economical features.
Plasma Process
Biomat’s plasma equipment consists in a vacuum chamber with one or more gas inlet (equipped with proper dosing systems), two electrodes connected to a RF (or different frequency) generator are located within the chamber in order to supply to the gas that flows between them the energy that excite its molecules generating the plasma.
Biomat continuous research in the sector has allowed us to develop the following cutting-edge process for plasma treatment:

a fixed degree of vacuum is reached
a fixed amount of the chosen gas(es) is made to flow through the chamber and excited by the electrical discharge creating the PLASMA

The process works in a limited time (from seconds to minutes) at practically room temperature affecting only the surface of the parts that are treated nothing else.
Plasma process has proven perfect for many surface modifications thanks to the following features:
Limited action to the thin surface layer without affecting the bulk properties of the material
Short exposition time (few minutes)
Low temperature: the process temperature is near to the room temperature, which avoids unwanted effects on the polymers
Flexibility: it works on a wide range of materials and applications (from degreasing of a metallic surface to deposition of a new polymeric layer)
Uniformity and reproducibility: in comparison with other surface modification techniques, such as chemical or corona, the plasma process, being run under strictly controlled conditions (vacuum) and parameters, warrants a constancy of results
Environment-friendly the dry nature of the process means no pollution on the treated parts and no chemical effluents, after the treatment, the parts need no additional process
Cost-effective: the above-listed features mean low operating cost
Plasma applications
Depending upon the type of gas or vapor that is employed in the plasma process it is possible to obtain different effects:
Plasma cleaning: plasma removes every organic contaminant from the surface leaving a surface cleaned on a molecular scale
Surface activation: employs a reactive gas (e.g. O2, N2) which creates different functional groups modifying the hydrophilicity and the biochemical reactivity of the polymer’s surface plasma-induced grafting employs inert gases (e.g. Ar, He) which remove some atomic species from the basic polymer generating reactive and cross-linked surfaces
Plasma deposition: some gases (e.g. Methane) can be plasma polymerised, coating the device’s surface with a thin layer of a different polymer
One of the most used applications of the COLD PLASMA technology is the modification of the wettability of the polymers. Polymers usually show an unwettable surface (contact angle > 90°).
This property means that, whenever a good adhesion to the surface is required, a poor response is encountered and therefore the surface needs to be treated to reach acceptable adhesion levels. Examples of application where a good wettability is important are, for example:

HISTORY
Biomat was established in 1992 as an engineering company dedicated to the development of special plastic products (microplates, PCR products, and other products) for diagnostic and medical applications.
The growing need of surfaces capable of binding biological molecules oriented us to focus on the surface modifications employing different technologies: from plasma to bio-coating and our team developed a wide experience in these fields enabling us to offer customized solutions.
In 1995 we started the production of our own microplates for immunoassays with modified surfaces. From the original Medium and High Binding capacity 96 well plates for ELISA, LIA and FIA, we extended our production to different formats and developed several types of surfaces.
Our knowledge of surface modifications, employing different technologies and working on different products, enables us to serve IVD manufacturers and researches operating in the different fields that need surface modified articles: from microplates to Petri dishes, to a wide range of custom made articles.
