Microarray Printer Nano-Plotter
The Nano-Plotter 2.1 TM family is ideal to generate high-quality spots by non-contact microdispensing of sub-nanoliter volumes. The versatile “drop on demand” piezo technology allows the placement of very small drops onto various surfaces, but also the mixing of samples into pre-filled cavities to run nano-assays.

The Nano-Plotter is ideal to develop and manufacturer multi-parameter assays in 96 well plates, on glass slides and NC membranes. Further this instrument pipets Nanolitre amounts into fluidic cartridges. Camera systems enable the automatic alignment to laterally patterned biosensors.

The modular non-contact Microarrayer
The Nano-PlotterTM NP2.1 is available in two sizes:
NP2.1 with a slide capacity of 55; NP2.1/E with a slide capacity of 120.
All Nano-Plotter versions come with the following common features:

– 1 to 16 independent piezoelectric pipetting tips in any combination. Post sales upgrade is possible.
– Sample aspiration from 96 well or 384 well micro plates
– Array density > 3000/cm2
– Dust cover
– Automatic wash/dry station
– Optical function test of each individual pipette tips after sample aspiration

NP2.1 can be configured to a particular application. And… it can grow! It is easy to increase the number of pipetting channels after sales. Also, most accessories can be upgraded. Thus, this instrument might be your companion from research to production.

Non-contact Micro Dispensers work on any Substrate Surface
The Nano-PlotterTM piezoelectric pipetting tips for the Picolitre range consist of glass and silicon- they are valveless and fabricated from microstructured glass/silicon wafers. Alternatively the instrument is available with solenoid valve dispensers for the Nanolitre range.

The tips interface with the instrument’s fluidic system through metal shafts. Each pipet connects to a dedicated syringe that supplies both sample and washing fluids. All N2.x instruments can be equipped with 1-16 tips in any combination.

Due to the nature of non-contact dispensing the Nano-Plotter supports so called Spot-On-the-Fly mode (SOF, since 2017) for microarraying applications with only one drop per spot position. Particularly when processing a larger number of flat substrates (E.g. glass slides) SOF saves up to 50% time.

Piezoelectric Tips for the Picolitre range
Nano-Tip J: 0.35…0.4 Nanoliter
Nano-Tip A-J: 0.25 Nanoliter
Pico-Tip J: 0.06 Nanoliter
Nano-Tip J-H: 0.35…0.4 Nanoliter (External heater unit required)
Pico-Tip J-H: 0.06 Nanoliter (External heater unit required)
Tips with special design:
Nano-Tip HV-J: For high-viscous samples
Nano-Tip AR-J: Slim design,for array printing into 96-well plates

Solenoid Valve Pipetting Tips (Option):
40…350 Nanolitre drop volume
Affordable glass nozzle for low operational costs
Upgrades available for all Nano-Plotter types

Automatic Function Test for each Piezo Tip
A camera system with sophisticated image analysis inspects each piezoelectric pipettor after sample aspiration. The analysis is for:

– Deflection of the main droplet from the vertical
– Droplet size, count and speed
– Deviation of satellite drops from the main jet
The checking function returns a result (Path/Fail) for each pipette. So if a tip fails to spot according to specification, the Nano-Plotter can either repeat sample aspiration, or continue printing with only the working pipettes and repair the missing spots afterwards.

Microfluidic Workstation
The Microfluidic Workstation (MW) is a benchtop robot with “flying” work deck. It is made to operate small transparent bio containments, e.g. SBS well format objects, microfluidic cartridges and others. It features two tool heads for optical inspection in both directions. The upper tool head operates all GeSiM made tools for liquid handling, Nanolitre pipetting and paste dispensing. Full 3d printing is given by the modular approach of GeSiM instruments. The recesses of the work decks accept carriers for arbitrary target formats.

The MW can be configured for applications like in-vitro tissue engineering, multi-cell cultivation, single cell handling and microarraying. It fits into biosafety cabinets. Other safety enclosures are available on request.

The measurement cameras can be configured to different detection methods, e.g. fluorescence microscopy, phase contrast microscopy and turbidity measurement for ELISA.

BioScaffolder
Bioprinting relies on very different polymers and bioinks. The 3D bioprinter BS3.2 manages a wide range of very different tools and ensures automatic XYZ alignment for all.

At a Glance
The BioScaffolder (BS) printer family comprises BS3.2 with focus on research and BS4.2 offering production capabilities. Main applications are:

– 3D Printing of very different (Bio-)polymers
– Creation of porous structures for tissue engineering
– Co-printing of hard (E.g. PCL/PLA) and soft (E.g. Alginate) biopolymers (Sequential printing, co-axial extrusion, Nanolitre pipetting)
– Functionalization of metal implants with soft polymer layers
– Printing of micro structures from biopolymers by melt electro spinning/writing

Printing from cartrigde enables the use of home made polymer blends. BS printers are not limited to commercially available filaments as known from the many FDM printers. Further very different printing methods for different materials can be combined on a single instrument.

Each BS printer comes with three pneumatic extruders but adapts to a wide range of materials by numerous add-on modules. Both printing tools and software are almost identical for most BS printers.

A more common introduction to the world of bioscaffolds and tissue engineering is given at the BIOSCAFFOLD tab. Selected customer applications are described at the APPLICATIONS tab.

BS4.2 offers approx. double space for print targets than BS3.2.

Basics:
– Three pneumatic extruders (Optionally heated) for dispensing of high-viscous/ pasty materials. Individual print parameters for each axes
– Automatic alignment for tools and building platform
– Nozzle cleaner

OPTIONS (Next Tab): GeSiM enhances the range of add-on modules for combination with the basic pneumatic extruders. At a glance:

– Heatable (190°C), coolable cartridge holders
– Pipetting unit (Low-viscous liquid handling with pipet tips, solenoid dispense valve or piezoelectric Nanoliter dispenser)
– Twin-Tip pipetting unit for mixing up tiny droplets (Low-viscous liquids)
– Piezoelectric dispense valves for high-viscous materials (Third party)
– Pneumatic Core/Shell extruders for doing hollow fibres
– Melt Electrospinning, -writing (MES)
– High-Power Syringe Extruders for melts up to 250°C
– Exposition Lamps for Curing and UV-Hardening
– FDM extruder printing commercial filaments
– Trays for target objects, e.g. cell culture plates
– Heatable (150°C), coolable (4°C, with external chiller bath) object trays

BioSyntheSizer

Introduction

The compact GESIM BioSyntheSizer manifests a new instrumentation concept for robots for complex laboratory automation on low-volume scale. It is a new, very compact lab automation platform whose goal is utmost flexibility. In the standard configuration it masters several different chemical syntheses simultaneously, as long as they fit in a liquid handling scheme. This, on the other hand, allows parallelization without having to make a new setup for each synthesis.

20 years of experience in the field of microfluidics and lab automation sets the BioSyntheSizer apart from common pipetting robots. Hard- and software follow a strictly modular approach and makes the platform open for application specific configurations. We will be pleased to learn about your requirements in chemical synthesis!

A Dream comes true in Chemical Synthesis

The BioSyntheSizer relies on a gentle but accurate robotic stage with a cascadable tool head with up to seven independently moving Z-axes.

From an application perspective the platform allows to define synthesis work flows consisting of different material handling steps/micro work flows (Right side, to be completed). Very different tools, vessels and reactors connect and work together for a specific application. The instrument software always reflects the current setup and quickly adapts to changing requirements when new hardware gets onboard.

The instrument has been designed for but not limited to the synthesis of biopolymers, e.g. collagen, hydrogels, radiopharmaceutical tracers. Click here for an overview of already realized applications.

About Us

Company details
GeSiM was founded 1995 as a spin-off from the Rossendorf Research Center. The company is a non-public and privately held entity.

Building upon a broad expertise in micromachining technologies, GeSiM has evolved into a bioinstrumentation company focusing on submicroliter liquid handling instruments and microfluidics.

GeSiM is specialized in liquid handling automation, microfluidics and micro contact printing. As a leading supplier of submicroliter dispensers GeSiM developed a unique design for piezoelectric pipetting tips, based on silicon-glass chips. The benchtop pipetting system Nano-Plotter runs up to 16 of these accurate dispensers and is mainly used as non-contact arrayer for microarrays, biochips and biosensors. The Nano-Plotter line follows a strictly modular concept and “grows” with the applications of their owners. Postsales upgrade and a variety of accessories help to bridge the gap from research to production. The Nano-Plotter is successfully used for the production of (FDA) certified diagnostic products.

Liquid handling by contact printing is available with the GeSiM micro-contact printers. These instruments transfer sample into tiny 2-dimensional patterns or generate 3-dimensional structures by Nano-Imprint-Lithography (NIL). A patented stamping technology features PDMS stamps for accurate image transfer.

Recent developments are focused on instrumentation for 3D printing of biocompatible materials, e.g bioscaffolds. Common 3D printers are usually not capable of processing biocompatible materials.

In addition, GeSiM has devoted itself to the development of micro fluidic flowthrough systems. Micro structuring methods are used to manufacture miniaturized fluidic components from silicon, glass, ceramics and PDMS to create products which cannot be made by conventional methods.

GeSiM’s specialty is the ability to offer complete tailor-made solutions to customers, including not only microfluidics, but also packaging, mechanics, macrofluidic engineering, and specialized control software (World-Chip Interface). Heading a small organization the GeSiM management is committed to quick decisions and maintaining close and direct contact to our customers and distributors. During the past decade we accompanied several customers on their way from research into well established businesses.

As a supplier of specialized tools we are used to contributing to funded research projects, mainly in Germany and Western Europe. The GeSiM staff developed a deep understanding of technological processes in (Nano-)Biotechnology.
