Mitaka Kohki is a manufacturer of surgical microscope in Japan.
From our foundation in 1966, Mitaka has continued to develop and manufacture astronomical telescopes, space development, industrial instruments, solar energy utilization research, and medical instruments.
Our experience of astronomical telescopes and space development are based on our technology.
Mitaka Kohki was started as a small factory with a few members 53 years ago.
At fast, we learned the foundation of craftsmanship and ingenuity by doing maintenance and restoration of the German or the British made astronomical telescopes which were installed at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan close to our factory.
After that, Mitaka Kohki has designed and manufactured numerous special observation telescopes and large telescopes for astronomical observation stations. The technique of tracking stars with high precision is utilized for the current microscope production.
In addition, Mitaka Kohki expanded its development to the space, and has also handled a number of special cameras mounted on observation satellites. The installed X-ray telescope was contributed to discover Cygnus black hole.
NASA Space Shuttle Columbia was also equipped with Mitaka special TV camera, as our idea and ingenuity were approved.
The optical technology cultivated with these special cameras is currently being utilized for ICG fluorescence observation.
In 1990, we partnered with Wilde Rites, the predecessor of Leica. and created an unprecedented innovative surgical microscope for neurosurgery “Space Pointer Syngas”.
Since becoming a partner with Leica, Mitaka Kohki have improved the stand for surgical microscope and have delivered over 4500 units to the world.
We will exhibit our new innovative medical device called MIPS, Medical Imaging Projection System, in MEDICA this year.
This is a collaboration project of AMED with Panasonic, Kyoto University and Mitaka Kohki started from 2017.
MIPS utilizes the projection mapping system and our long experience of manufacturing high quality surgical microscope.
In fluorescent guided surgery, MIPS shows fluorescent images directly on the affected area in real time. Therefore, we believe MIPS bring many advantages and benefits to not only surgeons but also patients.
